Tips on How to Take Care of Your Pearls

Pearls like any other precious jewelry requires proper care and maintenance from its owners. It needs to be taken cared of properly so that it could maintain its quality for a long long time. Pearl jewelries such as pearl necklaces, rings and earrings could be quite costly so it's best to take care and handle them the right way. Here are some tips on how to take care and handle your pearls properly.



1. Avoid wearing your pearls before putting on makeups, perfumes, lotions, and other beauty products.



2. Wipe your pearls with a soft cloth once you're done wearing them. You may want to buy a special cleaning agent specifically for pearls to clean it. If however you want to have it cleaned professionally, you could just go to a jewelry shop and have it cleaned.



3. If you want to restore the natural luster of your pearls but you don't want to go to a jewelry shop, you could do this simple home tip. Put a few drops of olive oil on a soft cloth and using that cloth, gently wipe the pearls to restore its shine.



4. Avoid storing your pearls together with your other jewelries. Your other jewelries like hard gemstones might scratch the pearls. If you can't separate your pearls from your other jewelries, place your pearls on a silk pouch to avoid it from getting scratched.



5. Visit your jeweler once a year or once every two years and have your pearls restrung. You have to make sure that the string is in good shape at all times.



6. Avoid wearing your pearls if it's very hot outside. Sweat, which is acidic in nature could damage your pearls and cause discoloration.



7. Avoid wearing your pearls when doing rough activites such as sports especially when swimming. Chlorine and salt water for that matter, could damage the pearl and cause discoloration.



8. Store your pearls on a cool and dry place. Extreme heat like what I've said a while ago could damage the pearl.
